Jenny Spencer comes to Innovative Dance with 2 decades of professional dance experience. At an early age of 12, Spencer was invited to study with Oregon Ballet Theater (OBT) under the Artistic Direction of James Canfield. Her training eventually led her to become a member of the Orchesis Dance Company at Oregon State University, which was founded by her Great Aunt, Betty Lynd Thompson.
Spencer then joined the Jefferson Dance Company in Portland Oregon as a soloist under the Artistic Direction of Mary Vinton Folberg. Spencer’s notable performance was her solo “Djamawon” set by the incomparable Julane Stites.
Spencer’s Ballet training led her to NYC meeting her mentor Chet Walker, introducing her to the style of the late Bob Fosse’s work. This unique, highly stylized form of movement with Spencer’s strong Ballet training eventually caught the eye of the legendary Ann Reinking who took Spencer under her wings and opened the doors to over 10 Broadway shows including the critically acclaimed Tony Award Winning Broadway Shows FOSSE and CHICAGO.
Spencer’s credits include Chicago, Fosse, Side Show, Annie Get Your Gun, The Producers, Dracula, Dance of the Vampires, All Shook Up, Romeo and Juliet and Applause.
Spencer now teaches on the West Coast and is hired privately to choreograph and take dancers to new heights by understanding storytelling through movement.
